NSFS details the future of Afro music, his faith and ambition with ‘God Money Motives’.

South American and Caribbean artist NSFS (NotSafeForSocials) is catching the eyes and ears of many in the music industry. His journey from his early days as Anansi to his standing today as a global sensation exemplifies what Africa can contribute to the music scene worldwide.

NSFS’s music blends London drill and rap with a Caribbean vocabulary to generate a whole new sound of his own. The artist has gained recognition worldwide, from his reggaeton hits in the Dominican Republic alongside La Kikada and Potencia Lirical to Brazilian drill with musicians Choice and Iza Sabino. Today, the artist works with Nigerian Afrobeats and Amapiano producer Phawel, further expanding his sphere of influence.

His latest single, God Money Motives’, portrays NSFS’s approach to themes of ambition, success, and faith. He discussed these topics at length with NOTION, diving into topics like navigating the modern music landscape, creative processes, and how his music mirrors his foray into the industry.

NSFS states that ‘God Money Motives’ is like a mantra to him, balancing the three pillars central to his life: faith, financial success, and personal motivations. In this industry, there’s always the risk of getting lost in the noise, but for him, it’s about staying grounded while still chasing your dreams.

With his artist name aiming to make a statement about stepping away from the noise, from the constant need to put everything on social media, NSFS says that he incorporated this name change to rebrand: “I needed to find myself again.”

With a powerful title like ‘God Money Motives’ NSFS notes that it signifies the journey to find meaning, purpose, and a reason for living. “For me, it’s ‘God, Money, and Motives’. Keeping active and moving, encapsulates everything for me. You can tell I was deep in thought when I wrote this,” he states.
As an artist who doesn’t see multiple genres, just music, NSFS is about writing each track with authenticity to find something no one else has. Known for blending Afrocentric sounds like Amapiano, Afrobeats, and UK drill, he is passionate about pushing the boundaries of Afro music.

Having worked with some of the biggest names and platforms, from the FIFA World Cup to Envision Racing and First Bank of Nigeria, NSFS looks out for amazing partnerships.“You know I don’t play when it comes to creative direction.”

NSFS is currently mentoring Phawel, an emerging star in the Nigerian music scene. He notes that it is important for him to support the next generation of Afro-music talent. “Nigeria definitely has talent. Phawel’s ability to blend Afrocentric styles with global influences is a testament to the direction Afro music is heading,” he states.

With many unreleased songs, NSFS relates music to a sport. “You’ve got to play and train. You can’t just turn up to the games. Sometimes, I need to get in the booth and keep the muscles going. If you stop, you lose it.” However, his reason for releasing ‘God Money Motives’ is that when Phawel sent him his idea, NSFS knew ten seconds in that this song was meant to be heard and not a, “practice round.”

‘God Money Motives’ showcases NSFS’ unique ability to blend diverse musical styles and cultural influences, creating a sound that is distinctly his own while pushing the boundaries of Afro music. By mentoring emerging talents like Phawel, NSFS demonstrates his commitment to fostering the next generation of Afro music artists, ensuring that the genre continues to evolve and expand on a global stage. As he continues to defy genre boundaries and redefine what it means to be an artist in the modern music landscape, NSFS remains grounded in his purpose, with ‘God Money Motives’ serving as both a personal mantra and a rallying cry for artists worldwide to stay true to themselves while pursuing their dreams.
