Toronto-based pop musician, RALPH, gives us an insight into a day in her life - including pancakes, pools, sunsets and tattoos.
Canadian pop musician, RALPH, has recently dropped Y2k tune “Crush”, a reimaging of Jennifer Paige’s 1998 dance-pop hit. “The song made me feel cool and flirty and powerful, and years later, I wanted to try and recreate that feeling,” RALPH explained.
“Crush” is the second release on RALPH’s new label Rich Man Records, following “Superbloom”, released earlier this year.
To celebrate the new track, RALPH gave us an insight into a day in her life, which included everything from pancakes and pools to tattoos and vintage shopping. RALPH explains her day below…
Pic #1: Good morning! I get up around 9/9:30 AM usually. I’m definitely not an early riser so that feels not too early but not too late. Sometimes if i ask very nicely my boyfriend will serenade me and SOMETIMES I can convince him to play me “Banana Pancakes” by Jack Johnson.
Pic #2: I’ve always loved running, but I’ve really embraced it over the last couple of months. I’ve been doing a monthly challenge with friends on the Nike running app where we run 100km every month. It’s been a good way to add structure to my days when I’m feeling a little lost and the endorphins definitely don’t hurt.
Pic #3: After my run, I treat myself to my favourite thing…A CROSSWORD PUZZLE! Truly nothing brings me more joy than a little alone time, a coffee and a crossword or word puzzle. Lol, I guess that’s very songwriter of me, since writing lyrics is just one big word game. I also ALWAYS do my crosswords in pen – pencil is for p***ies.
Pic #4: This brings me to my second favourite thing…COFFEE. I really don’t have an addictive personality, but coffee is my one vice. This is my favorite coffee mug, I think I got it from Value Village, and it’s the size of my head. My mum also just gifted me with a milk frother and now I’m obsessed with hot, frothed oat milk in my huge coffee in the morning. It’s a beautiful thing.
Pic #5: After being serenaded about banana pancakes…I often treat myself to these gluten-free flaxseed banana pancakes that my friend taught me how to make. They’re so simple and light and delicious. Sometimes when I’m feeling naughty I’ll throw in some chocolate chips.
Pic #10: Heading out to do some errands, but what shall I wear…I generally cycle through at least 3 outfit options before I pick one. These lace pants I bought at a vintage store in Toronto and I’m in love with them. I wore them to Osheaga last summer, they’re very breezy and sexy at the same time.
Pic #11 & #12: Very into an oversized tee and fun bicycle shorts these days, but I like to jazz it up with a fun shoe and/or bag. This fur Charlotte Simone purse is from VSP Consignment and the shoes are from Value Village – so early 2000s with the sequins and kitten heel. Obsessed.
Pic #13: Settled on this casual 90s-inspired look, the clunky platform wedges are from Zara and although they make my feet look massive, I love them. The vintage Dior sunglasses belonged to my great aunt, they’re from the 60s and they’re a prized possession of mine.
Pic #15: If you haven’t noticed, I’m really into second-hand clothing and consignment. Not only is it more sustainable but it means you find unique items that no one else owns! I love having wild outfits for the stage but I generally don’t wear the same thing twice, so I often sell my fun tour outfits at VSP and Common Sort in Toronto. This is me combing the racks for a fun new summer look…I want a flowy dress that I can pair with sneakers.
Pic #14: I’ve been really indulging in cool treats these days…Melona bars (coconut flavour) and birthday cake ice cream are my go-to sweet thing.
Pic #16: After I finish my errands, I head home to change and bike over to my friend’s balcony for dinner and drinks. This is my baby (I call her Little Blue) and because I don’t know how to drive, I bike mostly everywhere.
Pic #17: Do I ever get bored of summer sunsets? NO.
Pic #18: This summer has really been all about the outdoor barbeque hangs with friends. We’re very into BBQ zucchini with paprika and a big pitcher of tequila soda with jalapeno.
