Dance music duo Awkward Moments carve out their space in both reality and the astral realm with their third art-pop album, A Strange Odyssey.
Rising from the underground of London’s dance music continuum, art-house duo Awkward Moments are stirring up excitement for the release of their third LP, A Strange Odyssey. Formed by composer and sound artist Mimi Xu, and multi-instrumentalist and vocalist MAGUIRE, the pair embrace their individual creative backgrounds to add a unique flair to the electronic project.Â
Taking you on a journey to a metaphysical realm, the album explores a compelling dialogue between the eternal universe and ephemeral humanity, sonically translated through celestial beats and an intellectuality behind the melodies. The sensual electricity of each track transforms the dancefloor into a space of intellectual stimulation, as the duo claim: “It’s the end of the world, so let’s party.”
The album comes accompanied by sci-fi-inspired visuals, as Awkward Moments embodies multi-media language through submerging listeners completely into their dream world. They deliver the disoriented state of dance music with psychedelic euphoria in a multi-sensory explosion.Â
To commemorate the album release, the duo have curated Life on Venus – an Expanded Cinema performance event at the ICA on Thursday 11 September. They hosted a spotlight reel of six immersive live works by queer artists: ZoĂ« Marden, Eloise Fornieles & Howl Vocal Ensemble, Rowdy SS, and Grace Pickering & Sarah Nimmo. As the event aimed to probe conversations of self-expression and queerness within creative cultures, Awkward Moments are set to become leaders in the art-pop sphere.
