Press play on rising star Molly Trueman's moving first album.
Montreal-based singer-songwriter Molly Trueman is back and treating the world with the release of her debut album, Angels & Aliens. A powerful exploration of personal and societal themes, the project showcases Molly’s distinctive blend of folk vulnerability and alt-rock intensity.
At the heart of the album is the focus track ‘I Won’t Sleep Soundly,’ a poignant reflection written during the turbulent period of 2020. Inspired by the events surrounding George Floyd’s murder, the song encapsulates the grief and frustration many felt during that time. “There were no distractions,” Molly Trueman recalls. “It was hard to think about anything else.” With haunting vocals and a mix of acoustic guitar and delicate synths, the track evokes a sense of urgency and resilience.
Trueman’s influences shine through in Angels & Aliens, with nods to artists like Madison Cunningham, Phoebe Bridgers, Radiohead, and Paramore. The album balances soft, confessional lyrics with a raw, angsty edge that fans have come to love. The sonic landscape is diverse, incorporating traditional folk sounds alongside experimental, synth-driven moments.
Recorded in her bedroom during spring 2024, the album reflects a DIY ethos that lends it an intimate, authentic feel. Trueman took her time, reworking several tracks until they resonated just right. Each song unfolds like a chapter, contributing to an engaging narrative that encourages listeners to reflect on their own experiences, inviting us all to engage with the complexities of life.
