'Beggin' by TroyBoi delves deeper into his heritage in a vivacious collaboration with rising star BombayMami.

Star producer Troy Henry, better known as TroyBoi, has been deepening ties to his South Asian heritage in recent releases. The hypnotic collaboration, ‘Beggin’, with rising Indo-Swiss artist BombayMami, sees the south Londoner take this exploration one step further.

Setting the stage for his forthcoming EP, Rootz, which is out on September 19th with Ultra Records, ‘Beggin’ combines TroyBoi’s slow and atmospheric production with BombayMami’s distinctive vocal styling. Lush, flute-driven melodies and a lyrical edge create a cinematic yet intimate experience for listeners whilst demonstrating the power of cross-cultural collaboration.

As his heritage spans across India, China, Portugal and Nigeria, Troyboi’s discography is marked by the unexpected. Starting out by crafting beats on a MacBook in his studio apartment kitchen, the producer shot to fame with a remix of Billie Eilish’s ‘My Boy’ before being featured in Rihanna’s 2019 Savage x Fenty show and collaborating with Justin Bieber on ‘RedEye’. With his finger firmly on the pulse, the collaboration with BombayMami makes sense. Growing up equally immersed in Bollywood melodies and Western sounds, the vocalist has a penchant for daring storytelling. Her much-anticipated debut album, Peaceful Attitude, will be released later this year.

‘Beggin’ follows TroyBoi’s recent releases like ‘Masala’, a festival anthem that has touched audiences far beyond South Asian communities, and ‘Kabhi’, a touching tribute to the legendary playback singer Lata Mangeshkar. Not only do these tracks reflect the rapidly growing global influence of desi voices in the electronic scene, as the producer says, they mark the most personal chapter in his career with a focus on heritage and identity.
