John Budnik Band‘s third album, Beginner’s Mind, marks a significant evolution in the artist’s musical journey, showcasing a remarkable blend of genres, including rock, blues, and soul. The title track serves as an embodiment of his exploration of sound, inspired by Philip Toshio Sudo book, Zen Guitar. This album was crafted in the intimate setting of John’s garage in Palmer, Alaska, where he embraced a philosophy of approaching music without preconceived notions of right or wrong.
Rather than adhering to traditional structures, John invites listeners into an expansive auditory experience characterised by creativity and authenticity. Although he is the lead guitarist for the well-known local band Triple Black Diamonds and has performed at major events like Salmonfest, this project offers a refreshing departure from his previous work.
Themes of acceptance and mindfulness permeate the album, encouraging a deeper connection to the music. Each track captures a different aspect of his artistic vision, emphasising a natural, unfiltered exploration of sound.
