We spend some time on set with Ebony Frainteso and the cast and crew of her new video for Losing Out.
It’s less than a week until Halloween and the year’s end is in sight. Because we’re on a never-ending quest for the future of music, that means we’re already considering whose going to be our favourites of 2018 and as of five days ago, a new contender has entered the ring. Ebony Frainteso released her second single ‘Losing Out’ on Friday with a dreamy video to match, and we’re already hooked. A London soul-inspired track with an electronic undercurrent the track flips heartbreak on its head with Ebony calmly declaring ‘you let me down’ and ‘you’re about to be losing out.’
The video was created by, and stars, an all-female team. Helmed by Bossy LDN and director Misha Meghna whose previously worked with The Internet, Nike and Leomie Anderson, it stars Ebony alongside a roster of creative women of colour including gal-dem assistant editor Simran Randhawa, painter Erin Alexis and models Pippa Melody and Jasmine May. We’re so enamoured with the project that we got Ebony and co to take us behind the scenes and break down how the video came to life. Take a look in the gallery below.
Misha Meghna (Director) – ‘I wanted to create an art piece that resonates well with my photography, it’s not thought out it’s just what feels natural and this really did. The song itself was amazing as is Ebony. Bossy really put their trust in me and let me roll with it from the colours to the props even to doing the split screen which I was absolutely terrified of doing but it worked so well in the end because I said f*** the rules and Bossy stood by me in that decision throughout. They casted some amazing talent with me too which really pulled together each scene!’
Ebony – ‘The day of my video shoot was definitely one to remember from beginning to end, the buzz in the air was unmistakeable, so many powerful creative women coming together on this project.’
Simi Sear -‘it was a super fun day filled with femme vibes and I got to meet loads of gorgeous glowy gals’
‘I’ve never actually done a video on this scale before the amount of make up and clothing that was brought was amazing, but I was definitely in my element.. the bright colours and contrasting pieces sat so well up against the backdrops. As the day was tied up, one of the last scenes that were shot featured bowls of goldfish that I couldn’t bare to part with so I’m now a mother to nine gold fish that live in my kitchen. All in all I’ve so much thanks to give to the whole team for making the day such a success and I’m so excited for this journey as it’s only just begun.’
