Mamii drops a glittering deluxe edition of her introspective debut EP 'Black Phoeniix', gifting us three brand new tracks.
Originally hailing from Hammond, Indiana, 19-year-old singer, songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist Mamii grew up in a music-minded household that has moulded her approach to music today. By blending her electronic and acoustic influences, Mamii tracks her coming-of-age in the Midwest and questions the uncertain future through a spiritual lens. What comes through in her songwriting is undeniable talent.
Others have taken note. As well as being featured on Spotify and Apple Music playlists, her otherworldly sound has caught the attention of artists such as Syd, Omar Apollo and Jacob Collier. Now, Mamii blesses us with a deluxe version of her debut EP Black Phoeniix, containing three new tracks, “Wonderiin”, “Unwary”, and “Mrs Parker”, which delve deeper into her project of transformative self-discovery.
Speaking on the EP, Mamii comments: “It’s a personal story that I’m telling. The beginning is explaining how I went through heartbreak, happiness, finding out things about myself I never knew. I finally understood myself. Black Phoeniix is like a rebirth.”
Having been compared to SZA and Willow, Mamii is forging her own path in the industry with her jazz-tinged, ethereal brand of R&B. Expect to see a lot more from this rising star.
