Cincinnati’s Catlea is back with ‘Bones’, their emotionally charged new single set. It’s the lead track from their upcoming Bones EP, which brings together their latest release alongside the singles ‘Like Me’, ‘Lying’, and ‘Crumbling’. This new track finds Catlea at their most inventive yet, blending indie-pop foundations with a rich mix of soul, R&B, and even a dash of disco. The result is a genre-defying track that’s equal parts groovy and reflective. Known for their ability to effortlessly blend sounds, Catlea’s music has earned them a reputation as a true “sonic collager”—and ‘Bones’ is no exception.
Lyrically, the song delves deep into the emotional aftermath of a breakup. Catlea captures the familiar feeling of confusion and isolation that often follows the end of a relationship, but with a twist. The lyrics explore that exhausting, often contradictory space where you’re not quite over someone, but you’re also tired of talking about it. It’s this raw, relatable honesty that gives ‘Bones’ its power.
What’s even more striking is that ‘Bones’ almost didn’t make it onto Catlea’s debut album, Language Barrier. Only after a chance listen to a demo did producer Jason Boshoff and guitarist Oscar Garcia-Bragado insist the track be included. Now, it’s one of Catlea’s standout songs.
With ‘Bones’, Catlea proves they’re not just crafting catchy tracks—they’re creating anthems for the heartbroken and the healing alike. It’s the kind of song that invites listeners to reflect, feel, and move on, all at once.
