Luke Marzec finds renewal on England’s coast in the video for ‘Broken Promises’.
British multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter Luke Marzec has unveiled the striking video for ‘Broken Promises’, a standout track from his debut album Something Good Out of Nothing that dropped last week.
Directed by Alice Carfrae, the film finds Luke wandering through faded seaside towns along England’s coast, balancing moments of movement and stillness against a backdrop of Victorian piers and worn amusements. As sepia tones bleed into colour, the video traces a journey from claustrophobia to freedom, closing with Marzec swimming toward the horizon – a visual metaphor for letting go of the past and embracing renewal.
Originally written about fleeing abroad in search of a new beginning, ‘Broken Promises’ took on a deeper resonance through the process of filming at home. “You don’t need to get on a plane to find the change you seek,” Luke reflects. “It just depends how you look at it. The story you tell, the angle you choose, all of that can give new meaning. Just like life and its problems.”
The track showcases his gravelly, soulful voice against a wash of brass and subtle production flourishes, echoing classic soul while pulling it firmly into the present. It’s a sound that speaks to nostalgia while reaching toward renewal — the same themes that underpin his debut album.
Something Good Out of Nothing was conceived in two halves: Side A, released earlier this year, looked back on memory and reflection, while Side B leans into resilience and possibility. Together, they form a record built on Luke’s belief in music’s power to heal and transform.
