Senior Dunce transforms isolation into a euphoric dancefloor anthem on the standout cut, 'City Centre'.
Senior Dunce’s ‘City Centre’ is a dance track built for those who’ve ever felt like they don’t quite belong, but still want to own the night. A Korean-born producer, sound designer, and former club owner, Senior Dunce is finally stepping into the spotlight with a track that’s as restless as it is euphoric.
The track riffs on his time living in Liverpool, where a simple mispronunciation, “centray” instead of “centre”, became a quiet emblem of outsider status and unexpected connection. It’s a glitch in language turned into something oddly tender.
‘City Centre’ is propelled by kinetic drums and layered synths, while an anonymous British vocalist deliberately skews their accent, mirroring Dunce’s own linguistic awkwardness. Add a sharp Korean rap from GIMPADO, and the song fractures and blends genres and identities with a natural fluidity.
The accompanying music video, created by longtime collaborator Muturn, avoids literal translations and instead channels the track’s emotional core through fluid movement and vibrant party scenes. Without access to a full lyrical translation, Muturn captures the essence of the song in a visual narrative that pulses with intimacy and abandon.
On the track, Senior Dunce says, “Those were the days I felt completely lost yet deeply cared for. I couldn’t sleep many nights, overwhelmed by my outsider identity. But my friends helped me feel seen and that feeling is immortalised in this track.”
