Escape to the technicolour haven that is Babel’s dream-pop world, with infectious new track, “Closer”, and their upcoming album 'Marriage', expected to land in autumn.

Following on from their debut album last year, ‘Yoga Horror’, Finnish dream-pop duo Babel have just released their latest single, “Closer”. For the track, the pair drew on inspiration from delicate French sounds, Astrud Gilberto – a Brazilian bossa nova singer, and, naturally, the EDM hit “Stereo Love”. Combining this cocktail of influences with ethereal melodies makes for a dynamic, romantic tune fitting of the kitsch band.

Speaking on the creation of the track, the pair explain, “We browsed a Korg 05R/W synthesizer’s presets and found a wonderful musette sound that started to guide us in the studio. Karin [Mäkiranta] played the first half of the accordion riff, and Mikko [Pykäri] figured out the rest. The end result is a perfectly symmetrical accordion riff that makes you want to listen to it forever.”

A deep dive into the lyrics unveils a story of a deflated couple spending their final night together on holiday. They both realise the passion is gone, but give in to the romance one last time – which is reflected in the accompanying music video shot in Madeira. As according to the burgeoning popstars, the narrative is “based on the excitement and euphoria, the crushing feeling that all experiences are transient.”

Babel’s upcoming album ‘Marriage’, featuring track “Closer” is due to drop September 22nd via PME Records. With 11 strong new sounds, including “Crush”, “Mirrors” and “Dream”, 2023’s shaping up to be a fruitful year for the duo.
