Fresh from the release of their EP Only Making It Worse, and supporting Paris Paloma's tour, Dutch sister duo Sarah Julia take us through their day of headlining London's Hoxton Hall.

Loading in our gear, and part of our living room, into the van in a small Dutch village before making our way to the French coast with Juliette, our bassist.
A still life of fallen strawberries found somewhere along the way. On the ferry crossing the pond. It’s tradition now to blast ‘Cliffs of Dover’ the moment we drive off.
Soundchecking at the stunning Hoxton Hall in Hackney. Truly such a dream venue, we couldn’t have wished for a better place to celebrate the release of our second EP, Only Making It Worse.
On the road with top-tier drummer and driver Hette, who does it all.
Time passes quickly on show days. We immediately start loading in and setting up, so we have enough time to soundcheck. After that, it’s time to have dinner, add our notes to the setlist, warm up, and get ourselves ready.
Backstage before the show and the last bits of soundcheck. We wanted to make the night feel as personal as possible, so we brought nearly all our lamps and carpets to make it cosier, or as we say in Dutch, ‘gezellig.’
Showtime. It felt surreal to hear people singing along to songs we had only just released that same day. We invited our dear friend Norah, who also played violin on the record, to join us on stage for our songs ‘Daughters’ and ‘Mount Fuji’.
The legendary illustrator, and our friend, Chris Riddell came to the show and made a drawing for each of our songs. We’re so grateful to have these songs and feelings captured in such a unique way.
This might be our favourite part of the night, when we get to be even closer to the audience. It’s always so special to really see everyone’s faces around us and hear them hum along.
Wearing the new merch. Please, ‘Name three Sarah Julia songs’.
This one ties for favourite moment of the night: meeting you after the show, being able to chat and hearing your stories. Thank you for making this night everything we hoped it would be. We’re already feeling nostalgic.
Family portrait with the band Juliette, Hette and Juyane, from the green room before the show. We’re so lucky to know them, and to be able to share the stage with them.
