The rising London-based artist follows up his breakout single with 'Distance' - a cinematic, heart-wrenching exploration of longing, memory, and the emotional weight of silence.
London-based artist Liam Higgins returns with his latest single ‘Distance’, a cinematic and emotionally rich reflection on separation, memory, and unspoken words. Following the acclaim of ‘No Hill I’d Rather Die On’, this new track sees Higgins deepen his signature blend of textured folk-pop and poetic storytelling.
Opening with flute-like whistles, trilling piano, and airy strings, ‘Distance’ creates a dreamlike atmosphere before Higgins’ voice enters with gentle clarity: “Ten feet tall on father’s shoulders / I saw a world beyond the sea…” Subtle percussion pulses beneath the verses, painting a vivid mental snapshot of time and place.
The chorus swells with emotion as layered strings and guitar embrace his vocals: “You pull on every heartstring / Make my mind unweave…” It’s a powerful release, exploring how distance magnifies longing and emotional tension.
As the track builds, harmonies emerge and drums add quiet momentum. The melancholic bridge, featuring high-octave violin and fragile backing vocals, gives way to a final, lingering line: “Oh distance, what you do to me.”
Liam Higgins continues to carve out a distinct space in the UK’s folk-pop scene, balancing cinematic production with deep emotional resonance.
