Jenny Newman reimagines The Cranberries’ 'Dreams' with cinematic intimacy, lush nostalgia, and ethereal alt-pop depth.
Jenny Newman’s latest release is a spellbinding reimagining of The Cranberries’ classic ‘Dreams’, and it’s anything but a straightforward cover. Layering ghostly harmonies with chocolatey synths and fingerpicked guitar, the alternative singer-songwriter leans into a dreamy, emotionally rich atmosphere that feels both deeply personal and reverently familiar. Think Beach House’s shimmer meets the warm pulse of Passion Pit, with Jenny’s voice guiding the way.
“I’ve always romanticised life, and ‘Dreams’ has soundtracked that feeling for me,” she says. “This is my lens – filtered through 90s alt, Irish roots, and my own version of tenderness.” Her rendition honours Dolores O’Riordan’s iconic vocal lines, but carries them into a cinematic soundscape rooted in modern alt-pop and a kind of timeless melancholy.
The release is paired with a self-directed video co-created with Adam Castilla (The Colourist), set against wind-swept cliffs and glistening shorelines. Clad in Victorian-grunge looks, Jenny drifts through the landscape like a spectre of memory: wild, feminine, and softly untethered. The subtle narrative, writing a note, sealing it in a heart-shaped bottle, and sending it to sea, adds layers of longing and emotional release, echoing the track’s romantic core.
