Dua Lipa revives Milky Chance’s 'Stolen Dance' in Munich, recharging a modern classic with soulful nostalgia, on her Radical Optimism Tour.

In a moment of unexpected magic at Munich’s Olympiahalle, Dua Lipa paid homage to Milky Chance with a soulful cover of their 2013 breakout hit, ‘Stolen Dance’. Stripped-down and simmering with nostalgia, Dua’s rendition reimagined the alt-folk anthem through her signature pop lens: smoky, sultry, and steeped in stage presence. The crowd’s reaction was instant and electric, a hometown salute to one of Germany’s most successful musical exports.

It’s a full-circle moment for Milky Chance – the Kassel-born duo of Clemens Rehbein and Philipp Dausch – whose genre-blurring sound first caught fire with that very song. Now, over a decade later, the band is riding a fresh wave of momentum. Their latest single, ‘Passion’, simmers with flirtation: groovy, cheeky, and tailor-made for hazy late nights and TikTok loops. With lyrics like “I’m dancing with a Phantom / OMG you’re really handsome,” Milky Chance flex their knack for playful storytelling and sonic freedom.

Having racked up over nine billion streams and a string of Alternative chart hits, the duo is far from fading. Their upcoming orchestral homecoming in Kassel on 23 August adds another layer of evolution to their journey. But as Dua Lipa’s cover proves, ‘Stolen Dance’ still hits, reminding us that some songs aren’t just heard, they’re inherited.
