Amid the introduction of bold new technologies and a boundless desire for progress, many storied and established industries have been shaken dramatically over the last few years.
Chief among these is the music industry, which has seen a new generation of creators and audiences take the stage and shift how music is made and distributed. Duplexity is a musical act from this new wave of creators, and according to established musical outlets such as Rolling Stone and SPIN, this indie-rock duo could be the next big thing in modern music.
‘Waveless Tide’ is the bold new single by sibling duo Duplexity. From child actors to musical innovators, the duo has garnered momentum from their South by Southwest performance, is spearheading a musical evolution, and is forging its unique cross-genre identity. With ‘Waveless Tide’, the band isn’t just releasing a single; they’re signalling a shift.
The duo’s genre-melting sound, rooted in both nostalgic influence and modern rebellion, marks a decisive moment in their ascent as one of the most sonically daring acts to emerge from the alt-rock underground.
A New Sound for a New Generation
‘Waveless Tide’ marks Duplexity’s most musically adventurous release yet, as the song intertwines southern rock riffs with country undertones and rap-inspired cadences. Recorded at Nashville’s Sound Emporium with a seasoned lineup of musicians and mixed/mastered by industry standouts, the track presents the polished chaos of artists unafraid to blur lines.
Duplexity strives to offer a fresh take on genres. The pair grew up listening to a melting pot of genres and influences. Their father introduced them to punk, rock, and metal, while their mother introduced them to pop, country, alternative, and grunge. This musical versatility is reflected in the music the band makes in an often startling fashion. For example, “Waveless Tide” blends no less than four different genres and does so seamlessly, as the duo feels accomplished and comfortable in each respective musical lane. The siblings say, “We think it is fun and unique not to be limited to one genre and that we can make really interesting and cool music this way.”
A Melting-Pot Upbringing Comes Full Circle
Duplexity refers to their childhood home as a “musical household”, in which music was always playing and someone was always singing. This led the duo to be very creatively outspoken and ambitious in equal measure. Not only is this reflected in their boundary pushing music today, but it also inspired them to get into acting as children. Their acting background adds theatrical nuance and visual flair to their musical storytelling; each song feels lived-in, almost staged for the screen.
SXSW as Springboard
The band’s debut at Rolling Stone’s Future of Music Showcase was more than just a milestone moment for the pair; it was a launchpad. Sharing the stage with Benson Boone and other viral voices, Duplexity showed they could hold their own and then some. Fittingly, critics took note. Spin named them “one of the most promising names to remember”, and their charting success on iTunes’ Alternative rankings backs it up.
Defying Genre, on Purpose
Where many emerging bands cling to a defined niche, Duplexity thrives in the tension between influences. “We don’t want to be boxed in—we just want to make what feels honest,” they shared. That authenticity resonates in tracks like “Drop the Act” and “Copy and Paste,” but ‘Waveless Tide’ feels like the culmination of their creative fusion.
What’s Next and Why It Matters
With aspirations to hit primary talk show stages and play on Saturday Night Live, Duplexity is building a brand and a movement of multi-dimensional artistry.
Their ability to balance showmanship, songwriting, and a fierce DIY ethic could position them as Gen Z’s answer to a genre they’re rewriting in real time.
‘Waveless Tide’ drops on April 18 across all major streaming platforms. Catch the rise of one of indie rock’s most electrifying sibling duos and join the genreless wave redefining alt-music in 2025.
