Singer-songwriter, Mabes, drops the tempo with her new single “Fairground”, in a nod to her Country & Americana songwriting roots.
Although hailing from Essex, singer-songwriter, Mabes, takes more inspiration from the Nashville music scene than from anywhere in the UK. After picking up a guitar at the age of 15, Mabes was immediately enthralled by Nashville’s songwriting heritage. Infusing this tradition into her own writing methods, Mabes impeccable pop anthems soon led the world to take notice. Mabes even fulfilled her dream of performing in Nashville, with her debut album Wait & See racking up an impressive 38 million streams in its first year.
Mabes returns this summer with her single “Fairground”, keeping up her ode to Americana-tinged pop. A thoughtful and personal exploration of feelings of heartache after a failed relationship, Mabes explains: ‘“Fairground” comes from a place of hurting, after my love moves or goes away and the relationship ends. “Now I got issues cos I really miss you”. And saying that I’ve been hurt by love before but every time I ‘go all in’ despite this, I give everything in love and I should know better but can’t help myself. ‘Maybe you just can’t win’ in love.’
Having been compared to Lana Del Rey and Marina & The Diamonds, Mabe’s own brand of shimmery country-tinged pop has already made waves in the industry.
