Experimental and eclectic, we ask rising artist Treasure Bloom about his favourite pizza topping, current obsessions, and more.
Welcome to Fresh Face, a quick-fire interview series spotlighting the best rising talents in today’s youthful music scene. From biggest pet peeves to party tricks and death row meals, we’re stripping things back from the formal Q&A format. Think of it like speed dating, but with some of the freshest music makers worth discovering.
London-born and Hertfordshire-raised, Treasure Bloom is a singer, rapper and multi-instrumentalist who’s been working on building a musical repertoire since a 2019 debut. Ever experimental, Treasure writes and produces all his music in his home studio. His sound lends itself to the eclectic nature of his influences, ranging from progressive R&B, to stripped-back acoustic folk, alongside a musical upbringing in metal music.
He is also an artist not afraid of contradictions, demonstrated by his new release. Speaking about latest EP, ‘But Does It Make Sense’, Treasure describes: “the whole premise of this EP is about testing and questioning one’s love and this song is no different albeit it’s more direct and fun in its approach.” Lead track “Water Lily” is an example of one of the fun offerings from the four track project.
We caught up with Treasure for quick-fire questions, to find out his favourite pizza topping, current obsessions, and more. Dive in!
If you could bring three music icons to a dinner party, dead or alive, who would you bring?
Solange, Prince and 2pac.
What’s your pizza topping?
BBQ chicken, sweetcorn, peppers and mozzarella.
Three things that inspire you outside of music?
Running, minimalism and frugality.
What are you currently obsessed with?
Economics.
What has been your biggest pinch-me moment so far?
Performing at Melt Festival. It was the moment I realised live music gave me the feeling of content.
Wildest thing that’s happened to you lately?
Well I got cat-called in town the other day which is crazy. Never thought I’d find myself being objectified in such a tiny town!
If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?
Salmon, broccoli and rice. It’s all I eat anyway!
What was your last impulse buy?
A flight ticket.
Biggest goal for 2022?
To recuperate and get ready for the next year. Too tired to be setting new goals and I need some time out to write new material.
If there was a film made about your life, what would it be called?
Ghost In The Shell.
