With her refreshing approach to life, Marysa Ada spreads positivity on her uplifting EP, Fumilayo, with warm intentions.
Marysa Ada is a breath of fresh air in today’s music industry, disrupting the status quo, which is dominated by themes of anger and heartbreak. The Nigerian American artist’s new EP, Fumilayo, appreciates everything life has to offer, both the highs and the lows.
With a melting pot of influences, fusing Afrobeats, rap and hip-hop, her sound escapes the restrictions of genre boundaries, yet is unified by a solid core of positivity. The EP explores love in all forms, celebrating her family, community, creativity and faith, whilst retelling harrowing friendships and relationships embellishing them with an unwavering appreciation.
Unconditional love is the key focus of the EP, with lead track ‘Platonic’ at the project’s apex: a contemplative tune that captures the nature of love to overcome the trials and tribulations of life. Nevertheless, her approach is fluid, creating psychedelic-infused tracks like ‘Sapiosex’, that are effervescent with energy.
The EP is testimony to her dedication and her craft, with pulsating beats bursting with joy and melodies that carry a warm glow. The project is definitely worth a listen in the lead-up to summer. It’s one for sitting outside, soaking up sun rays and appreciating the people in your life.
On the new EP, Marysa tells us: “ These are feelgood tunes that you can dance to and reflect upon. The healing will come when you imagine the lyrics as if God was singing them to you. One love.”
