Berlin-based label Ottolinger reimagines G-STAR's iconic Elwood jeans in a new denim collaboration series called 'THE DENIM'.

In a denimy universe overwhelmed by barrel jean controversy, Japanese denim takeover, and a skinny jean revival, G-STAR wants in on the indigo action, launching their new collaborative series ‘THE DENIM’.

First up on their list of collaborators is Berlin-based label Ottolinger: known for their arresting shapes and sharp cuts. THE DENIM 001 features a subverted take on G-STAR’s classic style, the Elwood. Steeped in contemporary deconstruction, the slim-fit jeans toy with the innovative deconstruction that is synonymous with Ottolinger and the cult-classic craftmanship of G-STAR denim.

Gwenda van Vliet, Chief Brand Officer at G-STAR says, “This initiative is all about providing guest designers the opportunity to explore their creativity and push boundaries in denim. Ottolinger’s sensual interpretation of the G-STAR Elwood captures the innovative spirit we aim to foster.”

Abandoning their usual chaotic style of fabric deconstruction – burning, tearing, distressing – the brand founded by Christa Bosch and Cosima Gadient, takes a much more refined approach. Here, the style is thigh-hugging and dark-washed. “Diving into such an amazing archive,” Cosmia explains, “the G-STAR Elwood immediately caught our attention as one of the most iconic pieces, and we are beyond excited by the prospect of reworking it for our collaboration.”

The collection features two styles: ‘THE DENIM 001’ and ‘THE DENIM 001 Zip’. They are low-waisted and trimmed in gold and silver hardware and stitching respectively. But there is one underlying principle; for both variations, Ottolinger and G-STAR command that it is the season of the zips. On theme with Ottolinger’s provocative fabrications, the fully functioning zips on both pairs of jeans give a whisper (for THE DENIM 001), or a shout (for the DENIM 001 Zip) of the brand’s signature cutting-edge sensuality.
