Electronic producer CATTANEO exhibits avant-garde composition and collaborations in his new album's lead track, 'I know, I know, I know'.
“It is an intimate talk, a whisper of hope, a blow of fresh air” says electronic music creator CATTANEO of ‘I know, I know, I know’ – the focus track of his new album. Titled The Faun, this 12-track project sees a burgeoning producer develop his work through smart collaborations. Tapping underground international artists including Francesco Bianconi, the frontman of Italian band Baustelle and Douglas Dare, an English songsmith, Italian-born Paolo Cattaneo brings new depth and perspective to electronica.
CATTANEO, a self-labelled Sound Designer, seeks to be an innovator of electronic composition; the sonic complexity of ‘I know, I know, I know’ is proof he’s on the right track. Emotive vocals – contributed by Douglas Dare – coalesce alluringly with haunting harmonies and pulsating synths. The resulting atmosphere is both powerful and tranquil, embodying what Cattaneo says is the album’s overarching theme: ‘breaking free from indifference’.
It makes sense that the lead track of The Faun spawned from improvisations recorded during lockdown, when experimental creativity became an antidote to day-to-day monotony. Released to Spotify in 2021, CATTANEO’s pandemic-produced music sounds very different to the intense soundscapes in ‘I know, I know, I know’. Elsewhere in the 2023 album, futuristic sounds make for an enticing listen.
