Welsh producer, vocalist, and DJ, Elkka, takes us behind the decks at ortigia music festival, reflecting on her set and sharing what's yet to come.
Ortigia has been one of the most exciting boutique festivals in Europe for well over a decade, bringing the biggest names in dance music to one of Italy’s most picturesque surroundings, Sicily. This year, the programming took on a clear mission: to be the home of forward-thinking electronic music through diverse stages and boat parties around Ortigia’s historic downtown.
London-based DJ, producer and performer Elkka was one of the line-up’s big names this year. Known for her shape-shifting blends of thumping house, twisting breakbeats, squelchy techno and anything in between, she’s been a mainstay on the club circuit for over 10 years. She’s carved open dancefloors and left parties in her wake, and her boat party and mainland sets were no different at Ortigia.
We caught up with the artist, who released a new EP called Xpression on Method 808 in June, to hear how she got on. Find out more below.

How did you find Ortigia?
It was magical. I love being near the ocean and playing in such beautiful Sicilian surroundings; it’s very special. This was also my first-ever boat party, which was fun, watching the coastline drift by while I made my selections. Not to mention, the food was heavenly.
What was your fave set you saw that wasn’t your own?
DJ Python was amazing as always, his sets have a very hypnotic, transportive energy.
Which blend in your set got the best crowd reaction?
Pleasingly, it was a demo of mine I’ve been working on, mixed into the classic house track ‘House of Love’. Hearing the crowd react to something new of mine in that way was wonderful.
What’s one fashion item you saw someone wear that you were envious of?
I saw a girl wearing this t shirt with a print of a very sexy ‘80s pinup girl on the front that I adored.
What’s next for Elkka?
My new EP is coming very soon on Method808, with a very special collab that I can’t wait to share with everyone.
