Sally Mango drops groovy new single 'Love Inventory' and releases third album, Homemade.
San Francisco Bay Area indie-funk ensemble Sally Mango are back with their latest single, ‘Love Inventory’, alongside the release of their third full-length album, Homemade. The six-piece band, known for their infectious fusion of indie, soul, R&B, and pop, continues to delight fans with their signature groove and fresh, funky vibes.
‘Love Inventory’ stands out as a track that blends vulnerability with a self-reflective narrative. Lead singer Zia GV’s playful and introspective vocals shine through as she muses on the possibilities of new love, crooning the catchy hook, “I could fall in love with you.” The single spotlights the ensemble’s best qualities, offering a rich soundscape infused with funk and jazz-inspired melodies, accompanied by swooping vocals that create a captivating musical experience.
The band explains that ‘Love Inventory’ is about the excitement of meeting someone new and feeling that initial spark while acknowledging the cautiousness from past experiences. “The song is about meeting someone and feeling the spark, but being burned before you have a ‘love inventory,’ where you check the signs and maps to make sure you’re still on the right track,” the band shares.
The track came together organically, with primary songwriter Rohan Sahai laying down the main groove. From there, the rest of the ensemble seamlessly added their contributions. “The sweet horns from Charlie Buffa and Julie Chanin blended in perfectly, and Mikey Scheufele’s rhythm section brought the R&B vibes,” the band recalls. “Zia’s vocals tied it all together beautifully, and we also featured Nick Turley and an incredible Bay Area piano player for some additional keys that really added amazing embellishments to the feel.”
Homemade, Sally Mango’s third album, truly lives up to its title. The band took full control of the creative process, from writing and recording to production, mixing, and mastering. Much of the album was written in the serene surroundings of West Marin, California, with the golden fields and beaches serving as inspiration. “Homemade is us holding the music fully in our control and levelling up our abilities to complete a song from start to finish on our own,” the band says of the project.
Celebrating six years of making groovy music, Sally Mango’s chemistry is evident in every note. The band’s deep connection—formed through childhood friendships, college bonds, and shared living experiences—fuels their music, which often reflects their most cherished memories.
With ‘Love Inventory’ and Homemade, Sally Mango continue to cement their place as a must-listen act in the indie-funk scene, delivering music that’s as heartfelt as it is irresistibly danceable.
