Josh McCausland blurs ambient electronica and neo-classical sounds in his latest track 'Lurking Within'.

Brooklyn-based composer and producer Josh McCausland unveils ‘Lurking Within’, the haunting lead single from his project Pieces from a Forgotten Time. Blending ambient electronica with neo-classical flourishes, the track is a slow-burning, cinematic exploration of tension, built on ghostly piano loops, fractured synths, and a sense of emotional unease that never quite resolves.

“It’s about the quiet things we carry,” Josh explains on the track. “Not the explosions – the weight.” That quiet weight defines ‘Lurking Within’. It sits in the background, subtle but inescapable, floating somewhere between a Max Richter score and the eerie sound design of Severance.

Originally from Dayton, Ohio, Josh began his creative career in visual storytelling, working across film, photography, and design. That cinematic eye translates clearly into his compositions, which often feel more like evolving scenes than traditional songs. His earlier work, including fan-favourite ‘Opus 30’, earned spots on Spotify’s Peaceful Piano and Deep Focus playlists and led to syncs with HBO, Discovery, and Amazon Prime.

With over 4 million streams to date, it’s clear that Josh is carving out his own space in the experimental scene, and ‘Lurking Within’ is set to push him even further.
