Konstance pulls at heartstrings on her captivating new single, ‘My Heart', which beautifully captures the essence of young love.
Making waves with her standout collaboration on the official soundtrack for the 2023 film adaptation of The Colour Purple, 19-year-old Nigerian R&B and Afrobeats sensation Konstance is back with her new single, ‘My Heart’. Released last month, the track give us our first glimpse of her highly anticipated debut EP, In The Beginning, set to drop later this year via Bankulli Entertainment.
Penned and performed alongside fellow rising Afrobeats star Majeeed, ‘My Heart’ is a fusion of sounds that resonate with the essence of young love. The song features brooding melodies and sincere lyrics that showcase the emotional depth of both artists. Singing in English, Pidgin, and Yoruba, the dynamic duo delivers a performance that encapsulates their organic chemistry.
Directed by Bushboy Machiavelli, the accompanying music video, shot in Lagos, illuminates the song’s adolescent narrative. Konstance shares, “This song is about giving your heart up for love. Although I have never been in love, I’m saying if I do, I hope I won’t get hurt. Hence the line, ‘If I give you my heart, dakun ma je ko fo’, meaning, ‘Please don’t break it’. Having Majeeed on the track was perfect—what’s a love song without him?” She shares.
Konstance is a future chart-topper in the making. Her breakout single, ‘Melo’, earned her the Breakthrough Talent prize at the 2023 Silverbird Awards. Co-signed by the likes of Don Jazzy and Tiwa Savage, her collaboration with Rodney ‘Darkchild’ Jerkins featured in The Colour Purple has further cemented her status as a serious one to watch. Currently balancing her burgeoning music career with studies at Lagos State University, the singer-songwriter is a breath of fresh air, blending R&B and Afrobeats with unparalleled passion and authenticity.
