Known for her unique blend of traditional Haitian rhythms with modern genres, KANIS continues to push boundaries while staying true to her cultural roots on her new single, ‘No Contact’.

Haitian American Creole artist KANIS just released her new single, ‘No Contact’, taking a step back and looking at where a previous relationship went wrong. It’s a deeply personal track that explores the songwriter’s experience of breaking up with her partner of four years. The song marks a significant moment in her career, as it is her first to openly address a same-sex relationship. Sung primarily in Creole with some English, ‘No Contact’ delves into the complexities of being gay in a society that still struggles with LGBTQ+ acceptance. KANIS says she hopes the song will encourage others to embrace their true identities.

Known for blending elements of racine, voodoo, rara, and hip-hop, KANIS has built a reputation for music that celebrates and reimagines her cultural heritage. Her rise began on the streets of New York City, with her early singles ‘Riddim Affair’ and ‘Dan Bang’ quickly gaining traction, particularly within the Haitian community. Her 2017 album Enèji showcased her ability to fuse traditional Haitian rhythms with contemporary sounds, earning her recognition as the top Haitian rapper in 2018 and 2019.

In addition to her musical success, KANIS has made inroads into fashion and entertainment, collaborating with brands like Lacoste and the Miami Open. Earlier this year, she hosted a high-profile event at Soho House Miami, which attracted tennis stars such as Novak Djokovic and Daniil Medvedev.

As she releases ‘No Contact’, KANIS continues to draw on her cultural roots while pushing the boundaries of her music and influence. With recent collaborations alongside artists like Tiwa Savage, Patoranking, and Reekado Banks, she is solidifying her position as a rising star in the global music scene.
