Get stuck into all the fresh new tracks you need to hear this week, featuring Ariana Grande, girl in red, Clavish and more.
‘we can’t be friends (wait for your love)’ by Ariana Grande
GRAMMY Award-winning artist Ariana Grande today released her first album since Positions, which came out in 2021. eternal sunshine looks set to follow the astronomical success of previous projects, as tracks like the trancey ‘we can’t be friends (wait for your love)’ inevitably surge up the Billboard charts.
‘DOING IT AGAIN BABY’ by girl in red
Arguably girl in red’s most fun work to date, ‘DOING IT AGAIN BABY’ is a strutting pop song that pulls from sounds as disparate as country and punk. “Nothing’s gonna stop me now,” she howls over a barrel of banjo and acoustic cacophony. You’d find it hard to disagree.
‘Uh Uh’ by Clavish, Fredo
Reigniting the rap scene with another collaborative banger, ‘Uh Uh’ signals the announcement of Clavish’s forthcoming mixtape, Chapter 16. The wordsmith delivers another flawless verse and hook in those gravelly tones while Fredo drops a fiery feature - his first since being released from a Dubai jail after five months in prison.
‘Jesus Is Dead’ by Bleachers
Another highly anticipated album release, Bleachers’ self-titled record is filled with all the noir hits we’ve come accustomed to from Jack Antonoff and Co. ‘Jesus Is Dead’ is perhaps our favourite, as the pop mega producer crescendos alt-rock rhythms into a pool of frenetic saxophone solos.
‘Still’ by Mura Masa
Continuing to steer his ship in the direction of a more club-orientated sound, ‘Still’ is Mura Masa’s latest single on brand new label, Pond Recordings. Chopped up vocals from alt-pop ‘it’ girl Griff ripple over minimal tech house, which meander through six minutes of euphoric ‘cry in the club’ music.
‘Walk Like This’ by FLO
Reminiscent of ‘90s girl group greats like Destiny’s Child and TLC, ‘Walk Like This’ is a smooth and sultry club jam, spiced by the trio’s alluring lyricism. “There’s a reason why I walk like this / side to side with a sway in my hips,” they sing on the hook powerfully, leaving a trail of R&B beauty in their wake.
‘It’s Only A Paper Moon’ by beabadoobee
Curated by Jack Antonoff, the soundtrack to Apple TV+’s The New Look features many of our fave artists. None other than beabadoobee brings her folk-ish tones to the album, providing a daydreamy vibe that comes so naturally to the west London based singer-songwriter.
‘Smoke’ by HOMESHAKE
HOMESHAKE’s sixth studio album, CD Wallet, is finally out in the open. Written and recorded at the multifaceted artist’s home studio in Toronto, the record addresses the feelings of nostalgia (real name) Peter Sagar has towards guitar music. ‘Smoke’, with its moody lo-fi grunge aesthetics, exhonerates the off kilter riffs and fuzzy guitars you hear across the project’s entirety.
‘tresspass coat’ by Niko B, dexter in the newsagent
Niko B is back and bopping along to the soulful sounds of lo-fi jazz-house on his new single, ‘tresspass coat’. Relaying the mundanities of twentysomething life through his matter-of-fact rhymes, the track is mellifluously infectious and features a killer hook from dexter in the newsagent. The single is his first from his debut album, dog eat dog food world, which is expected to release May 24.
‘Fancy’ by Sainté, Chow Lee
‘Fancy’ another one? Sainté’s latest single is our third taste from his forthcoming mixtape, Still Local, slated for release later this month. NY drill kingpin Chow Lee delivers on a psychosomatic jersey club beat, which injects some wooziness into each artists’ swaggering flow patterns.
