Brooklynite Malik English layers retro D&B with silky-smooth vocals in upbeat new track, “Only Me”.
Part Trinidadian, Nigerian, and Canadian, up-and-coming musician Malik English has been soaking up influences his entire 23 years across various genres and artists. His efforts have resulted in performances at SXSW and The Apollo, as well as featuring in Beyonce’s Black Is King. He continues to push boundaries today, resulting in his brand new track with Izumii, “Only Me”.
Layering his signature vocal style over a retro-style drum and bass break, in this single he injects an exciting new energy we haven’t yet seen from the newcomer. Silky smooth vocals glide over the aggressive instrumental, the perfect contrast. A feature from fellow NYC musician Izumii completes the flow of the track and provides us with a new name to keep on our radar.
Speaking on the release, Malik shares, “’Only Me’ is an embodiment of joy, an invitation to escape the pressures of life, and to encourage others to feel comfortable being themselves. No matter if you’re alone or in a group of people it’s important to maintain your sense of self and have fun being who you are. We wanted to motivate people to wild out in whatever way’s cool for them.”
