Veronica D’Souza’s 'Peaches In My Halo' celebrates self-acceptance and liberation through infectious alt-pop rhythms and empowering choreography.
Veronica D’Souza, the former founder of the groundbreaking fashion label CARCEL, is making waves in the music scene with her latest single, ‘Peaches In My Halo’. This unapologetic alt-pop anthem champions self-acceptance and liberation, inviting listeners to embrace their multifaceted identities.
After gaining acclaim for her innovative approach to sustainable fashion, which empowered women in prisons, Veronica shifted her focus to music during the pandemic. “Having to close CARCEL was a catalyst for me to find my voice again,” she explains. Veronica D’Souza dove into music production, teaching herself the ropes and emerging as a self-taught artist with a message with a debut single, ‘Just Because A Crush’.
‘Peaches In My Halo’ features syncopated rhythms and infectious chants, designed to awaken listeners from their past selves. The track showcases Veronica D’Souza’s fierce vocals and intricate synth work, transitioning from crystalline melancholy to uplifting empowerment. “It’s about living out all that you are,” she states.
The accompanying music video, shot in Copenhagen’s Tunnel Fabrikken and directed by Niklas Adrian Vindelev, features stunning choreography by Ida Mei Lillie. Veronica D’Souza also collaborated with Aniela Brøndum – a dancer who has embraced her own identity by letting her curls flow freely – who the artist met with The Soulfuls, a mutual mentorship program for women of colour in the creative industries. Together, they created a powerful visual narrative that celebrates diversity and self-expression in which Aniela teaches Veronica to dance.
‘Peaches In My Halo’ has received praise from critics, with NBHAP calling it “a defiant celebration of self-expression.” As Veronica continues to break boundaries in both fashion and music, her upcoming debut album promises to be a dynamic fusion of her artistic vision and social advocacy. With every note, she redefines what it means to be unapologetically oneself.
