‘PSA’ by Khaliyah X

Hailing from Chicago, Khalyiah X is carving out her niche in the R&B space. The singer-songwriter’s latest track ‘PSA’ featuring Kayo, is a standout of her music catalogue – which include a string of singles as well as the EP ‘Just For The Summer’, released since 2018. With production stripped-back and new collaborators involved, Khaliyah X’s talent shines and promises to captivate new audiences.

‘PSA’ was initially conceived over a year ago, when it was nothing more than a humming melody and a hook. Collaborating with the Chicago rapper, well-known to the underground scene, Kayo, the track took on a new life. Kayo’s witty, introspective lyricism and hard-hitting delivery complement and contrast Khaliyah X’s caramel vocals, a dynamic which was evident throughout the songwriting process, “even during the music video shoot, the synergy between us made the process incredibly enjoyable,” Khaliyah shares.

Siting SZA, Jhene Aiko, and Kehlani as influences, Khaliyah’s sound is a continually evolving fusion of timeless R&B and fresh hip-hop. In recent months it has caught the attention of Chicago’s sporting industry, and seen Khaliyah deliver striking performances to thousands at the WNBA Chicago Sky and the Chicago Bulls.

Produced by Joey Hamhock, her new single – characterised by mellow, uplifting melodies – arrives to soundtrack the dawn of long summer days . Continuing the positive energy, lines like, “everything you want will come to you in due time,” offer a message of patience and perseverance.

Speaking on the track, Khaliyah shares, “life isn’t always smooth sailing, and people may not always be kind, but that’s just part of the journey.”
