Your forthcoming album, MEGA DANCE, is described by yourself as transcendent. What separates this EP from your previous releases, how does the sound differ?

MEGA DANCE feels simple, pure, and fun. We’ve had a long period of navigating through our broad taste in electronic music. It has been very rewarding and has made us better writers and producers, but it feels like we have made our way back home.
What was the thought process behind the lead track, ‘Heartbeat’? We love the track here at NOTION.
‘Heartbeat’ is about a love that keeps you dancing on the edge of madness. When the whole world burns down around you, it’s hard to find your way through the chaos. And within that fire, your love is both your compass and your tempest. The beat is inspired by Londonbeat!
What do you want fans to feel while hearing the track?
Even though the lyrics carry a little bit of desperation and sadness we hope the uplifting beat compromises that into feeling a good summer vibe.
The single expresses a plethora of emotions and vulnerable feelings. How do you want it to resonate with your audience?
We know that our hardcore audience are emotional, big-thinking party people, so they appreciate depth in the music even when it’s played on the dancefloor.
Having released two Swedish Grammy-winning albums, what are you most excited for us to hear on MEGA DANCE?
The pressure is on when you put it like that! But we just want you to feel good, silly and sexy.
How do you want MEGA DANCE to tell your stories as musicians, is there anything we should be paying attention to as listeners?
Production-wise, we decided to take inspiration from the music that initially opened up us to the world of dance music—our first electronic loves such as Rollergirl, Ace of Base, Leila K, and Scooter. It’s where breakbeats and acid basslines meet fast piano rolls and corny synth leads. The melodies and lyrics come from the same naive and innocent place as when we took our first steps onto the dancefloors, but they still feel like classic Rebecca & Fiona.
Talk to us about where you come from. Do you draw upon any of your upbringing when making music?
We both grew up in Stockholm with parents working in music, so it has always played a big part in our lives. But when we met in our early twenties we found each other and a common obsession with dance music. It was a no-brainer, we were meant to be together!
Working as a world-famous pop duo, how do you bounce ideas between each other when writing your tracks?
It depends on the vibe and setting we’re in. But it often starts by ourselves with an idea of a beat or track that we sketch some vocals on and then we send it back and forth or meet together in the studio for a session. To be honest, we are hopeless bed producers so we usually stay there until it’s time to do the final touches!
Your music touches upon pop, dance and electronic genres. Who inspires you sonically?
Too many. But a simple answer right now and always is Leila K.
What does the future hold for Rebecca and Fiona?
Babies, babes and big romantic music. Hopefully we get to keep on touring and exploring the world together doing our stupid little thing.
