North Carolina duo FRGN-SPCMN blend hip-hop, R&B, and experimental sounds in their new album, Ride Around the Sun.
North Carolina-based producer duo FRGN-SPCMN — Ronnie Belle and André Jones — are back with their latest offering, Ride Around the Sun, an album that encapsulates the essence of a late-night drive under a starry sky. Known for their innovative production and previous collaborations with Coast Contra and Lance Skiiiwalker, as well as contributions to the soundtrack of Issa Rae’s Insecure, this album marks a significant step into the spotlight for the duo.
Ride Around the Sun is a masterclass in genre fusion, seamlessly blending hip-hop, R&B, and experimental sounds into a rich tapestry of laid-back tempos and atmospheric soundscapes. The title track, featuring Mez and Ace Henderson, serves as the album’s emotional core, exploring the intertwined themes of pain and pleasure. “You can’t have one without the other,” they reflect.
Inspired by a transformative trip to Joshua Tree, the duo aimed to create an album that feels like an off-road adventure. With prominent guitar twangs and textured percussion, each track evokes a sun-soaked terrain that feels both familiar and otherworldly.
“We all have unique stories,” say FRGN-SPCMN, “but we’re navigating the chaos of human existence together, sharing this endless ride around the sun.” Ride Around the Sun invites listeners to join this journey, offering a sonic exploration.
