UK jungle legend Clipz selects us 10 nostalgic tracks that defined his early years raving around the west country.
'Drift to the centre' by Aquarius
Slyly one of the best jungle tunes ever made. Photek on the buttons under his alias Aquarius. I used to hear Bukem play this and I didn’t know the ID for years.
‘Western’ by Roni Size
Prime time raving. Skiba on the mic. The first time I heard this was Bryan G spinning it at One Nation.
‘Babylon' by Splash (Dillinja Remix)
Big ups Daz (Splash), who sadly passed away earlier this year, for creating one of the all-time classics that is`Babylon’. This time,I’m choosing the Dillinja remix. Drive By at Creation in Bristol... this one caused havoc, back in the day.
‘Share The fall’ by Reprazent (Grooverider remix)
First heard this in the back room of Lakota in the late ’90s when Full Cycle had the night in there; it blew my mind. Still sounds so good now! This shit right here shaped the future.
'Silver Blade' by Dillinja
Game changer, Dillinja... blade runner...
‘Drop Bear’ by DJ Die
Nothing reminds me of bar rumba more than this track. the big fans blowing directly on the dancefloor as every Thursday new dubs were being spun into my ears.
‘Concentration’ by Mask & Gang Related
Roni and Krust delivered the funk like mad on this. I remember going to Ruff Neck Ting in UWE, and Hype playing this tune last, as the lights went up, but no one left, until the whole 7 minutes played out. So good!
‘It's Alright, I Feel It’ by Nuyorican Soul (Roni Size remix)
There used to be a sick club called Fruit Club in Swindon at the Brunel Room's Opposite Sainsburys. You'd come out at 5 am into the car park buzzing and they'd be loading in the fruit and veg. Frost played this on plate one time and the place went crazy. He reloaded it about 4 times. The intro is so long that it took 15 mins off his set!
‘Scottie III' by Sub Nation (Ray Keith remix)
Where it all began, ‘Scottie III’ is still so fucking sick to this day. The reason I’ve added this is because I heard the big bad Randall play this when I was way twoo young to be at a club, let alone at Ruffneck Ting in Lakota. Sadly Randall passed away yesterday, he will be deeply missed by everyone. R.I.P, Randall.
