Having just announced her new label Rhythm In The City and another groove-laden EP, titled RED, music legend Karen Nyame KG selects us 10 'Nightryde' anthems.
'Alright' by Victoria Monét
I'm completely obsessed with Victoria Monét. I Love the way KAYTRANADA swings the grooves and percussion in his drums and the bounce in the bass, absolute goals. It's the perfect futuristic presentation of House & RnB on this record, an incredibly seductive tune!
'Resist' by Gina Jeanz
The sun is setting in an open space somewhere at a festival, with 'Resist' playing loudly in the fields - scenes! Namibian Queen Gina snapped on this; the production is hypnotic, it fuels you with that intense level of euphoria needed in an Afro tech track.
'Good Food' by Hagan
Soulfully nourishing to the ears, top-tier musicality on this Soulection release from my fave Hagan. Perfect for evening vibes in a hot country somewhere!
'Kuwe' by Kelvin Momo, Babalwa M
Kelvin Momo's signature is that of the earlier variations of Amapiano, a more jazz-inspired presentation of the genre. His music is sonically stunning and soulful. Real spirit sounds! 'Kuwe' stays heavy in my rotation.
'Want' by Niniola
What a banger! This one's a deep Amapiano midnight heater for the clubs. Niniola is an artist who floats seamlessly between the Afro-electronic and Afrobeats space.
'NUMBER 1' by Scotti Dee
This one's a real provocative, sub bass dubby, Ama-infused roller. An absolute weapon for club speakers!
'Contact' (Karen Nyame KG Remix) by Kelela
This is a cheeky addition here, but I could not resist. I absolutely adore Kelela. This was made for night time lovers, and escapades in the club, I am such a sponge for South African deep house, which is one of the main influences in my reinterpretation of Kelela's 'Contact'.
'Fantasy' by Kali Uchis, Don Toliver
Jahaan Sweet and P2J are on the buttons for this, and what a groove - sheesh! I love the vocal synergy between Kali Uchis and Don Toliver, it's so smooth.
'Give It Up To Me' by Ojerime
The sax additions throw me into complete musical bliss, what a beautiful record.
'Passionfruit' by Shelly Sony
There's an incredibly sweet and sexy vibe to this song.
