London-based Afrofusion artist Nizzy picks 10Trax that inspired his sophomore EP, 'Pillow Therapy'.
Rapidly-rising afrofusion artist, songwriter and musician, Nizzy, is cementing his place in the scene with an addictive new project.
On his sophomore EP, ‘Pillow Therapy’, Nizzy effortlessly blends afrobeats, dancehall and R&B to create a delicious sound that is uniquely his.
‘Pillow Therapy’ has been a long time coming. It’s been three years since Nizzy released his critically acclaimed debut EP ‘Dreamin’ In Colour’, which featured artists such as Mazi Chunkz, Lax, EugyOfficial and more.
On ‘Pillow Talk’, Nizzy continues his collaborations, this time working with UK rap star Big Tobz on the remix of “Midnight” and newcomer Wauve, as well as exciting producers SHØLA and Chris Motems.
Nizzy says that the EP was “inspired by past love experiences and I also wrote the songs in the winter, so it does have that ‘cuddling season for lovers’ feel to it. The record is very mood music-heavy and it feels like something you want to listen to at night, when you just want to release your body and soul just before bedtime, and that’s exactly my vibe right now, so I’m glad the EP was able to capture that, and I hope listeners can connect with me through these soulful fusion songs”.
We asked him to pick 10Trax that influenced the making of this EP. Dive in below!
"Secret" by Burna Boy featuring Jeremih & Serani
"This is my kind of vibe! I like the mellow rhythm with a touch of soul, and I often get compared to Burna - vocally. I like the track, it's quite catchy and versatile, it works for hearing it in a club or whilst driving. I also enjoy the old school Jamaican Reggae mixed with the Afro sound, which brings a total different kind of vibe. It's a timeless song."
"Ginger Me" by Rema
"I like the meaning of the song - the words that he chooses like "Girl na your love way dey ginger me which is kind of strong for love". 'Ginger' means hype from where we are from known as Nigeria, plus the melodies and the beat are different. Rema reminds me of the old Wizkid so it's quite nostalgic. This song is just too cold, from the lyrics and beat, I get gassed every time I hear it."
"Smile" by Wizkid featuring H.E.R
"This was a beautiful and brilliant collaboration, it's got that old school reggae vibe also, and as you imagine, I have a big thing for reggae. I’m into Wizkid's sound and this comes with a beautiful vibe plus the song is about love - love is a beautiful thing, he who find love has found a good thing. I'm a big fan of Wizkid so this had to make the list."
"D & G" by Davido featuring Summer Walker
"I chose this song because it's got a nice vibe. The collaboration with Summer Walker brings a whole different vibe - RnB meets Afrobeats and it's a very catchy summery track with strong melodies, this is definitely one of my top summer songs and it's also a club banger."
"Odogwu" by Burna Boy
"The energy on 'Odogwu' is just different compared to the usual Burna Boy records. I like it because it's a catchy track and the vibe on it really make it a top record, and I especially enjoyed the Igbotic side of the track. It's Burna Boy, you just gotta love him!"
"Lo Lo" by Omah Lay
"Omah Lay has been a breathe of fresh air this year, he's the new wave, and I like this track because I’m a huge fan of alté music and the whole movement, plus this track just sounds cold. 'Lo Lo' is one of the year's most popping songs so it just had to make the list."
"Dangerous Love" by Tiwa Savage
"Tiwa Savage is one of the best female artists across any genre of music, and one of my personal favourites too. I like the vibe she brings out in the record, and it reminds me of Beyoncé's own 'Dangerous Love'. Tiwa's track is quite catchy and versatile, it's just a totally different kind of vibe to what I'm hearing. As for why it's on the list, it's Tiwa Savage!"
"Midnight (Remix)" by Nizzy featuring Big Tobz
"This is one of the first tracks from my new EP. You should definitely listen and if you like it, you should probably check out the EP. This one is the perfect setting for driving, the club, anywhere, and I feel it has all the components for a good song. It's very mellow, relaxing and I feel my voice is perfect for this type of beat and this should be on everyone's list."
"As E Dey Go" by Naira Marley
"Naira Marley's vibe is just different and I really like the 'Wuge' dance move that go with the track, it's already gone viral. The high-tempo energy of the track is a vibe and there's a good reason Naira is making waves right now, his music is so infectious. Once you press play, you cannot turn it off!"
"Give Dem" by Nizzy
"Another banger from me of course. 'Give Dem' is really a nice good vibes type of song. Definitely a chillout type of track for the club or the bar or a drink up. What makes it a top song? It's a very feel good track with good vibes, who doesn't like that? I can picture girls getting ready for a night out vibsing to it and guys bubbling to it at a motive. The track is different compared to other songs on my EP or any song out right now, it's very versatile - girls love it, guys can vibe to it too. Give dem!"
