Singer-songwriter Chike makes a stirring comeback with Son of Chike, the latest edition to his flawless discography.
Nigerian pop and soul sensation Chike is back with a compelling new album, Son of Chike, his first release since the critically acclaimed The Brother’s Keeper. The rich 12-track lineup marks a profound return to Chike’s roots and heritage, emphasising his identity as a descendant of the Osebuka lineage. The record, produced by longtime collaborator DeeYasso and featuring a stellar roster of artists including Olamide, Qing Madi, Ladipoe, Amaeya, and the late Mohbad, delves into the intricacies of human experience through evocative storytelling and soulful melodies.
The lead single, ‘Egwu,’ a posthumous collaboration with Mohbad, has already garnered over 250 million global streams, setting a celebratory tone for the album. From the defiant opener ‘Unto You’ featuring Ladipoe, which champions authenticity, to the introspective ‘Someone,’ which reflects on broken promises, Chike navigates themes of love, self-discovery, and cultural pride with emotional depth and lyrical finesse.
Tracks like ‘Lifetime Love’ and ‘Apple’ offer a nuanced exploration of romance, while ‘Ego Oyibo’ and ‘Mma (Beauty)’ celebrate Chike’s ancestry. The album closes with ‘Man Not God,’ a powerful anthem that underscores humility and gratitude. Son of Chike is more than just an album; it’s a celebration of Chike’s artistic evolution and a testament to his enduring influence in African music.
