Video Days tease a bold new era with the explosive slowcore single, ‘Split'.

Boston-based four-piece Video Days are back and louder than ever. Following the breakout success of their dreamy debut EP sungazing, the alt-rockers crack open a rawer, grittier chapter with their newest track, ‘Split’. Emerging from their lo-fi origins, ‘Split’ signals a major sonic shift. Trading restraint for release, the track is an immersive dive into slowcore, shoegaze, and post-rock textures. The band, known for cultivating intimate, introspective soundscapes, now offer a version of themselves that’s just as tender but more volatile, more confrontational, more alive.

Anchored by a hypnotic guitar loop and restrained, spoken-word vocals from frontwoman Emma, the track slowly simmers before erupting into a blistering noise-rock crescendo. The climax? A seismic wave of distortion and chaos that collapses over the listener like an emotional avalanche.

“‘Split’ was the band’s first true collaborative work,” Video Days explain. “Tim started with the main riff, and then Sam and Jacob layered in contrasting lead guitar parts while Emma crafted the lyrics and vocal melody.” Shaped and refined through a year of live performances, the track captures both the intimacy of shared creation and the volatility of self-confrontation.

Lyrically, ‘Split’ dissects the fractures within – themes of duality, emotional rupture, and inner conflict pulse throughout. As the song shifts between minimalism and full-blown noise, it mirrors the disorientation of trying to reconcile two opposing selves.

With nearly a million monthly listeners already under their belt, Video Days are poised to break even bigger ground. ‘Split’ is the first taste of their upcoming debut album, and it’s a bold, crackling promise of what’s to come.
