Ghanaian-born Selassie returns with new single “Symbols”, complete with colourful visuals.
Selassie is an artist making waves this year. Back with a new single, the Ghanaian singer is still the ‘Kid from Dansoman’ at heart, offering his musical perspective through personal tracks. New single “Symbols” has dropped alongside visuals that reflect his all-round colourful creative contributions.
Describing his journey so far as heavily inspired by “breaking the stereotypes and the mentality of kids, from Africa to Europe,” his playful approach is paired with heartfelt delivery. Selassie describes how his music also creates a “transparent conversation with himself”, reflecting the honest nature of his lyrical style.
His sound is jazzy, moving between clear genre definition and adding African-inspired melodies alongside hip-hop and house elements. The visuals for “Symbols” see the singer set against a sea of paintings, in a whimsical exploration that reflects the song’s chilled atmosphere. According to the artist himself, his “music reflects the way you want to be loved”. Ultimately, the goal is good vibes, honest lyrics and a commitment to authenticity.
