MEYY and Jelani Blackman take us behind the scenes on the video shoot for collaborative track, "Rain".
Belgium-born MEYY has teamed up with London rapper Jelani Blackman for the track “Rain”, now brought to life with visuals directed by MEYY herself. The first track on her ‘Neon Angel’ EP, “Rain” holds an ethereal quality, a quality reflected by the otherworldly aesthetic of the new video. Romain Albers has created 3D art to run alongside the visuals and complete the musical universe. Think alien reflections, Y2K stylings and trippy graphics.
Describing her process for the video, MEYY describes: “For ‘Rain’, I had several settings in my head all pivoting around a minimal aesthetic and angelic light. We made this with a small team and we had to jump through quite some hoops to turn this into a reality. Directing it from scratch was completely new and challenging for me, but I learned so much through the amazing creative team involved. From the creative director to DOP, set dresser, editor, and graders, it’s the team that made it all come together.” Jelani felt “it was cool to be brought into her world for this video.”
The release coincides with MEYY’s performances at SXSW this week in Texas, where she will play at Higher Ground on 16th March and 3Ten Austin City Limits Live on 18th March. She’s also set to play Dour Festival in her native Belgium in July. Come with us as we go behind the scenes on the set of the “Rain” video shoot with MEYY and Jelani. Dive in!
