‘Next To Die’ by Ugly
Hailing from Cambridge, post-punk rulebreakers Ugly just released ‘Next To Die’, marking another evolution for the band. “‘Next To Die’ was the obvious choice for Ugly’s return, a year after the release of our EP and a year of intense gigging - it’s a song we’ve been playing relentlessly for a while now,” says the six piece, pre-cursing one of their biggest shows to date next month at the Village Underground.
‘Somewhere going home’ by Kuru
Internet rap trailblazer Kuru can do little wrong at the moment, having supported Frost Children and Oklou and worked with xaviersobased. The 19-year-old just released the hypnotic ‘Somewhere going home’, showing off his slipstream flows and digital stream of conscience. He’s carving out his own lane in the rap scene, and we’re welcoming it with open arms.
‘Out Of Place’ by Hongza
London-born Vietnamese-Chinese rising star Hongza’s ‘Out Of Place’, produced by Lary Hibbitt, is fuzzed up to the max. “As well as it being a song about lacking a sense of belonging it's also about getting screwed over as a musician, a bit of a F U music industry song,” he explains, holding his finger up to corporate bullshit and welcoming in a new era of creativity.
‘lvl 10 - LOBBY BOY’ by Léa Sen
‘lvl 10- LOBBY BOY’ is the closing track of Léa Sen’s forthcoming debut album, LEVELS. She reflects on the twists and turns of her life so far, asking questions that brush up against themes of autonomy, fate, and the illusions of control. As Léa reaches the final level, she suggests that self-discovery is endless, with each insight only revealing more questions and deeper layers within ourselves to uncover.
‘Two’ by Brian Nasty
Produced in collaboration with London composer Melo-Zed, ‘Two’ by Brian Nasty is a cathartic exploration of impostor syndrome. “People always have comments and will tell you how to get things done. But you know what? I'm trying. And that's all that matters to me,” Brian explains. A hint at more music to come, ‘Two’ marks the end of a pivotal chapter for the artist.
‘Venus in Scorpio’ by virgin orchestra
Reykjavik-based band virgin orchestra brings ‘Venus in Scorpio’, a track that spans euphoric and dark within minutes. With a focus on the cello from Run Arnadottir, the accompanying instruments are brought to life. virgin orchestra also have an upcoming EP, set to release in late May.
‘omw!’ by Jite
‘omw!’ by Jite is a heartfelt love letter to her city that explores the hardships of being a young creative in a smooth R&B package. “As an independent artist living in LA, it can be hard to gain financial independence and stability. As I get older I keep finding myself realising how much time I have let pass me by while still feeling like I am in the same place (both mentally and literally),” the artist says.
‘Get Loose’ by Nia Archives & Cheetah
Nia Archives and Cheetah are making sure the junglists aren’t ignored this summer. The debut release from Nia Archive’s new record label Up Ya Archives, the soca-inspired track commands the attention that the DJ deserves. The release also comes alongside a music video shot in east London that embodies all the partying that the track has to offer.
‘Moonshine’ by Joviale
London-based artist Joviale’s new single ‘Moonshine’ is a high-strung jazz-infused track that marks a new direction for her sound. "One could say, I’ve woken up from the dead. I’m alive, I’m awake and I know what I want. A drop of moonshine was all it took,” explains the artist. Making music just as dramatic as a TV show, Joviale is in her own lane, and we are here for it.
‘Let It Go’ by V.I.C
A rising star in the UK rap scene, V.I.C brings ‘Let It Go’, a taste of his upcoming mixtape VÄRIANT set to release at the start of May. Born in Nigeria and raised in Southampton, V.I.C has a rich cultural tapestry that he weaves into his sound. As a teen, his music was an outlet, and he continues using it as a place of catharsis everyday.
