Listen to this week’s edition of UNDISCOVERED, featuring our pick of the best new music from the world’s most exciting emerging musicians.
As August comes to a close, don’t worry, our round-ups of emerging artists are only getting hotter. New York’s Model/Actriz get dragged to the dance floor by Colombian producer Verraco, who takes on their jagged noise-rock cut ‘Vespers’, lacing the chaos with razor-sharp techno precision.
In Austria, Sofie Royer offers a sleazier kind of escapism with ‘AUTO’, written while drifting through festivals at home and across Germany. It’s woozy, indie-stained electro-pop that smirks as much as it sings.
Then the focus turns to love. London newcomer BaggE lays it bare on ‘For You’, an alt-soul ballad pinned to delicate piano chords. Norwegian four-piece Veps keep the romance bittersweet on ‘My Champagne Socialist’, merging acoustic warmth and glowing analogue synths with lyrics that sting.
R&B slides into the mix through Brent de la Cruz’s ‘Cry’, a highlight from his album RENDEZVOUS, 1998, before UK producer K-Lone shakes things up with ‘Midnite’, a garage roller full of stuttered drums and midnight bounce, released on legendary label, TEMPA.
Then comes the experimental surge. NYC’s Cult of Venus leads her new EP with ‘Algorithm’, drifting into ethereal spaces. Stockholm’s Oli XL gets glitchy on ‘MUTE THE WORLD’. Bronx riser Anysia Kym teams with Tony Seltzer on a sugar-coated cut, while Nigerian shapeshifter Tay Iwar brings it home with ‘MERCY PLEASE’, a sultry Afrofusion groove built for summer nights.
