Portuguese priest Padre Guilherme unites faith and techno on Veneremur et Adoremus, a boundary-pushing EP with Italian duo Ebmath.
Padre Guilherme is bringing techno to the Catholic Church. A priest on a mission to merge the worlds of faith and dance music, Guilherme has collaborated with the Italian duo Ebmath to reimagine techno melodies in a sacred setting on their EP titled Veneremur et Adoremus. Latin for “let us adore and worship”, the new release boasts two tracks that explore the ecstasy and transcendence found in both dance and religion.
“This project is a bridge between centuries of sacred tradition and contemporary rhythms,” Guilherme explains. “My hope is that these tracks will inspire moments of gratitude, faith, hope, and peace – whether the listener is driving in the car or dancing in a club.” Born in Portugal, the electronic artist has built a reputation on his unique stance within the genre, bringing his groundbreaking project to stages across the world.
The EP’s reinterpretation of Caccini’s ‘Ave Maria’ hymn incites a genre-bending journey through mellifluous vocals and contemporary beats. Inviting vocalist Liliana Sofia Coelho and the Pequenos Cantores de Amorim e de Laúndos children’s choir to the track, the ethereal blend of the collaborative effort produces an uplifting, immersive sound for both church halls and dancefloors. ‘Adoramus (Original Mix)’ is a track that drifts between the sacred and the club-ready, layering devotional chants over hypnotic electronic beats to strike a balance between introspection and euphoria.
Guilherme continues to spread his visionary language of love and faith through music, placing him as a genre trailblazer.
