Rising alt-pop artist zinha shares her new single 'walls', which was written as a raw ode to when relationships have run their course.
If you haven’t heard of zinha yet, you’re about to. The alt-pop artist, also known as Luisa Chumbinho, is making waves with her fresh take on heartbreak and introspection. Her latest single, ‘walls’, dropped today, and it’s a track that’s sure to hit you in the feels, strangling you with intense emotion that she delivers delicately. It’s also the second taste of her upcoming debut EP, ☹☺ [sad/happy], which is set to land on September 20 via B3SCI.
Zinha’s story is one of resilience and reinvention. Back in the cold winter of 2021, she was just another part-time waitress with big dreams. But after a heartfelt talk with her friend and producer Josh Christopher, she decided to take the plunge into music full-time, embracing the nickname her family gave her as a child: zinha. What followed was a year spent in Christopher’s DIY studio, where they crafted the eight tracks that make up her debut EP.
Since then, zinha’s been turning heads both in the UK and Portugal, becoming one of Lisbon’s most captivating buskers, drawing crowds with her haunting vocals and sweeping performances. Enchanting locals and tourists alike, these experiences have built the foundations of zinha’s artistry, but she knows that her ceiling reaches far higher than the busy streets of The City of Seven Hills.
‘walls’ captures the raw emotion of relationships that have run their course. Recorded live without a metronome, the song mirrors the unpredictability and intensity of that moment when everything falls apart. “‘walls’ is that moment in every relationship when you realise it’s over—the crashing waves, the underground rumble, hard rain falling,” zinha says, summing up the track’s visceral impact.
