Quick fire Q's with the UK's next big grime talent.
Yizzy represents the next generation of grime. With a hi-energy flow and killer beats, it comes as no surprise that last he picked up the first Future Fund, which was a unique grant set up by BBC Music Introducing and the PRS Foundation for upcoming talent. Earlier this year he released his second EP, S.O.S (which stands for Save Our Sound), which featured a string of major talents including Maniac, Swifta Beater and Rapid.
The EP helped to put the Lewisham talent on the map as one of the UK’s finest new grime talents. As he gears up for what is sure to be a massive 2019, we catch up with Yizzy to talk everything from Zendaya to Anime.
Do you remember your dreams? Tell us about a recent dream you’ve had….
I remember dreams sometimes and usually they’re really clear. I’ve not had one for a while but in the most recent one I was in zombie apocalypse. I had to stay alive and make it to somewhere, not sure if I survived lol.
What is the closest you’ve ever come to death?
Almost been stabbed a few times.
Tell us, what is your first memory of music?
When I was 3 years old I remember dancing to a Shaggy tune.
What’s your star sign? (Does your personality match that?)
I’m a Capricorn and from what I’ve been told I seem to fit the description.
When was the first time you had your heart broken? (who by? how did it feel? what did you do?)
In my first serious relationship, I got pushed to the point of a breakup which kind of broke my heart and made me depressed for a while. I think it’s because it’s the first time I’ve allowed myself to properly love and I felt like it backfired.

Who was your first celebrity crush?
Zendaya. Still is to this day, she is fine as.
Tell us one thing nobody / not many people know about you.
I like Anime. If you think that’s weird, you can suck your mum.
What would your biography be called?
Is he Yizzy?
What was the first song you ever wrote?
The first song I wrote properly was called “Grime Kid” and was also my first ever music video.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given?
Don’t let people tell you how to live your life when they ain’t the one living it.
What has been your biggest achievement?
Hitting 1 million streams on my 2nd ever EP in less than 4 months. I was gassed I can’t even lie, a milestone like that meant a lot to me.

Which fictional character do you most relate to and why?
Light Yagami or Lelouch Lamperouge. Both are very smart characters who try to change the world for the better. They are both successful, but both end up dying as a result. I’m trying to change the world in my own way as well one step at a time.
How was High School?
Secondary school looking back were some of the best years of my life. I miss the little things like all the mandem kicking ball on the astro turf or arguing about which football player was better. I only realised how much I enjoyed school when I wasn’t there anymore.
Who is the most famous person in your DMs?
Either the F2 Freestylers or Wiley.
Describe your own personal idea of hell…
Having to wait in a long line forever and never getting to the front OR never being able to listen to music in headphones again.
What’s a lie you’ve told and what was the fall out?
Same lie I always tell, I’m 5 minutes away. If I tell you I’m 5 minutes away and you believe me that’s on you. The fall out is usually moaning.
Which super power would you most like to have, and why?
Telekinesis, it’s like bare powers in one. Make yourself fly, move objects with your mind, control the elements etc. Suddenly one power turns into like 5.
What is one album that totally changed your life?
Lil Wayne the Carter 4. It showed me all about lyricism. One of the reasons I’m able to be lyrical or put together punchlines in my own music is somewhat because of the influence that album had on me.
When was the last time you cried and why?
The last time I cried was when my Nan died in 2016. Other than that, I’ve not cried in about 6/7 years.
Where/what will you be doing at the end of the world?
2 things I really love is food and sleep. If I’m not sleeping then I’ll be duppying a jerk chicken with rice and peas, jerk wings, plantain and some buffalo wings.
