Meet R&B artist TheARTI$T, sharing her soulful journey through artistry.
In the vibrant landscape of contemporary R&B, one name stands out, TheARTI$T. The Newark native has carved her artistic identity under the moniker that truly embodies her essence. “My artist name is TheARTI$t,” she reveals in an exclusive interview. “Originally, it was EricaTheArti$t, but I felt that I didn’t need to keep my real name. TheARTI$t just embodies who I am. I love Art, I need Art, I am Art.”
For those yet unfamiliar with her sound, TheARTI$T offers a glimpse into her sonic universe. “My sound is rugged yet relaxing,” she explains. “It can be soft and it can also be tough, depending on the emotion being brought out of me. It’s definitely new in a sense where I don’t feel that I sound like anyone, but it’s familiar in this R&B space that I’m in. The emotion, the rasp, and other small elements that are already present in our genre.”
Her passion for music burns bright, fueled by a profound connection to the art form. “Music keeps me connected to the things and the people that I love,” she reflects. “I found a safe space in music before I began to make my own, and once I had my first studio session, it unlocked a whole new level of love for music. I start my day with it and end my day with it every single day.”
Drawing inspiration from a diverse array of influences including Jazmine Sullivan, Brent Faiyaz, and Lauryn Hill, TheARTI$T infuses her music with a depth and authenticity that resonates with listeners on a visceral level. “Some of my musical influences are Jazmine Sullivan, Brent Faiyaz, Sza, Summer Walker, Lauryn Hill, and the list goes on,” she shares.
At the heart of TheARTI$T’s latest project, ‘ARTchives: The Gallery’, lies a profound desire to dive deeper into her artistic narrative. “This project was inspired by me introducing the ART part of my story,” she reveals. “As I was in the studio, I felt myself making music that would help connect the dots while also showing my supporters a side of me that I don’t talk about. Painting is another love of mine, and it also serves the same purpose that music and fashion do for me. I feel that it’s time to expand all that I can do and give.”
With ‘ARTchives: The Gallery’, TheARTI$T invites listeners on an immersive journey through her personal gallery of emotion, experience, and self-discovery.
