With one smash hit already under her belt, we meet chart dominator Ava Max as she drops her hotly anticipated second single.

First of all, let’s get real, “Sweet But Psycho” was pretty much one of the biggest shoots of the yesteryear. There was no escaping it. It topped the charts in 17 countries and basically made Ava Max an overnight success story. Born in Milwaukee and raised in Virginia, she spent her teen years listening to icons like Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston, who she still cites as major influences today alongside pop heroines like Fergie, Madonna and Gwen Stefani, to name a few.

Determined not to be a one-hit-wonder, this week she will unveil her new single, “So Am I”, and we expect it to be just as much of a banger as her previous jam. An undeniable catchy pop anthem, Max says: “’So Am I’ is about loving yourself, being different, being an outcast and not fitting in the format that society wants to put us in – just celebrating what really makes you different. Whenever I’m feeling down, I remind myself that my flaws make me perfect, because in reality there is no perfect.”

As she prepares for another platinum hit, we sit down with the rising starlet to find out the most famous person in her DMs and nearest she’s ever been to death…

Tell us about a recent dream that you’ve had.

I’m asleep in my dream and there’s a huge tiger next to me on my right. This dream keeps recurring and this tiger just stares at me whilst I sleep. It’s the most bizarre, weird dream, but I remember it clearly.

What is the closest you have ever come to death?

I’ve been in a couple of car accidents, so I would have to say one of my car accidents on the freeway. It was really scary but everything was good afterwards; I’m alive now.

What is your first memory of music?

My first memory of music is being at home in my basement where I would play all the CDs. I grew up listening to Celine Dion, Shania Twain, Mariah Cary and just playing their songs over and over again, trying to mimic every word.

Aquarius.

Are you a typical Aquarius?

Kind of, but I am also a little bit Pisces ‘cause I’m all over the place.

Oh my god, when I was 16. It was a long time ago, but that was the first time I had my heart broken and the last time I had my heart broken. After that, I broke hearts. It was this guy in high school, he was not cool.

Who was your first celebrity crush?

My first celebrity crush was Joe Jonas, I was like twelve years old.

What has been your biggest achievement?

I have to say live US television, it’s always been a dream of mine and I recently performed on The Late Late Show with James Corden and The Today Show!

Probably Alita, I saw a trailer and she looks like she’s so confident and she just goes for it. I haven’t seen the movie yet, but I’m looking forward to it.

How was high school?

I was mostly home-schooled, but at eleventh grade I went to public school in South Carolina, so that was interesting. I was bullied a lot because I didn’t have new friends and I wasn’t in any clique so I was just not popular. I was the new kid from California who came back to the East coast and kept telling everyone that I wanted to go back to California and pursue my dreams.

Rita Ora.

What will you be doing at the end of the world?

Hopefully I’m with my family, but at the end of the world I’m definitely going to be eating a shit-ton of chocolate cake.
