International producer DJames and exciting new R&B prospect Phaemous team up on five-part EP, ‘Boundaries’, out now.

Navigating the convoluted themes of love and relationships, from first date jitters to ghosting, to finally expressing how you feel, ‘Boundaries’ is an R&B ode to young romance. For this London and Lagos-built project, emerging talent Phaemous joined forces with DJames to merge R&B soundscapes with minimalist afrobeats.

The EP opens with “MIA”, a saxophone-laden track that sees Phameous begin to process the end of his relationship. “What Is Love?” draws from captivating drum patterns to question the importance of money and love. Track “First Time” takes a more sensual approach before leading into “Dreaming”, which reveals more sax arrangements and live keyboard elements.

As Phaemous explains, “The entire project is inspired by the love that DJames and I both have for R&B as well as afrobeats, which is why we were able to infuse both genres to deliver such a satisfying listening experience. We wanted a chance to show our versatility, and I believe we did just that”.

DJames continues, adding that, “As a DJ and producer, I love discovering new talent, so working with Phaemous is so exciting for me. I spotted his talent, and thought this project would be the perfect opportunity to showcase what we could do together”.
