ChopLife SoundSystem honour South African dance music in their incendiary new album, 'Chop Life, Vol 1: Mzansi Chronicles'.
Mr Eazi and DJ Edu are the two masterminds behind the brand new dance project, ‘ChopLife Soundsystem‘, bringing their collective virtuosity to the album, “Chop Life, Vol 1”. Recorded between Cape Town and Johannesburg over the past year, the offering pays hommage to South African dance music. An explosion of deep house, amapiano and big room, the record provides a deep dive into the booming club scene in South Africa.
The 14-track piece has seen the musical tastemakers team up with a multitude of talents, including award-winning amapiano singer Focalistic, afro-punk artist Moonchild Sannely, and Tarico and Joey B. who joined ChopLife SoundSystem on viral hit, “Patek”.
While it’s only the beginning for the duo, they’re no newcomers to the industry. Nigerian-hailing Mr Eazi has racked up over 4 billion streams with his afropop hits, including “Pour Me Water” and “Skin Tight”. Having founded talent program ’emPawa Africa’ in 2018 to platform African artists, he’s hailed for expanding African music’s global reach, as well as for breaking global stars like Joeboy and Major League DJz.
Mr Eazi’s most recent venture sees him team up with DJ Edu, a highly-in-demand selector who’s been championing new artists on his BBC Radio 1Xtra show, Destination Africa, for over 15 years.
Playing a pivotal role in the explosion of afrobeats worldwide, DJ Edu and Mr Eazi will be taking their latest project on tour across Africa and Europe for a series of parties this summer. Setting off from where it all started in Johannesburg, they’ll be taking their Chop Life beats from Accra, to Barcelona and Brussels to London. With 14 infectious new tunes, they’re raring up for some killer performances across a handful of the biggest festival stages.
