To be fully loved you must be fully known. In a new, exclusive editorial, photographer Josh Pineda explores the act of hiding in shadows to protect ourselves from pain.

To be fully loved you must be fully known.

That’s a scary thought for most, to be fully known. It requires vulnerability and defeating the fear of rejection. It’s overcoming the voice in your head telling you to keep to yourself and hide in the shadows.

The late Swiss psychiatrist Carl Jung once defined shadows as the parts of ourselves that we despise or loathe and therefore hide and avoid. They are mysterious doubles, the images of our souls.

These images challenge us to expose those parts of ourselves. To create space for healing by shining light on our brokenness.
